Team Fundraising Letter and Text Templates You Can Copy and Paste

By the Kick For Good Team · · 4 min read

Ready-to-use fundraising texts, emails, social posts and thank-you notes for youth sports players and parents. Fill in the blanks and send.

The hardest part of any team fundraiser is the ask. Most people want to help a young athlete, but players and parents often don't know what to say. These templates take the guesswork out. Copy them, fill in the blanks, and send.

A few rules that make every template work better:

  • Be specific. Say what the money is for and how much you need.
  • Keep it short. Two or three sentences beats a long letter.
  • Make it personal. Use the person's name and send it yourself.
  • Include the link. Put your player's page link or QR code in every message.

Text message from a player

This is the most effective template on the page. A personal text from the player gets read, and it's easy to act on.

Hi [Name]! I'm raising money for my [team name] team so we can [go to the spring tournament / get new uniforms]. My goal is $[amount]. Can you help? Here's my page: [link]. Thank you!

Shorter version

Hi [Name]! I'm fundraising for my soccer team's trip to [event]. Would you help me reach my goal? [link] 🙏⚽

Text message from a parent

Hi [Name], [player] is raising money for [team name] this season to help cover [tournament fees / travel]. If you're able to chip in, here's [his/her/their] page: [link]. Any amount helps, and it only takes a minute. Thank you!

Email to family and friends

Social media post

[Player] is fundraising for [team name]! 🏆 We're raising money for [purpose], and every gift gets us closer. If you'd like to help, here's the link: [link]. The fundraiser ends [date]. Thank you for cheering us on!

Add a photo of your player in uniform if you're comfortable sharing one. Posts with a photo tend to get more attention.

Asking a local business

Hi [Business owner], my name is [name], and my [son/daughter] plays for [team name]. We're raising $[amount] for [purpose]. Would [business] consider matching gifts up to $[amount]? We'd thank you on our campaign page and in our team updates so every family on the team sees your support.

Reminder (send once, a few days later)

Hi [Name]! Just a friendly reminder that [player]'s fundraiser for [team name] ends on [date]. We're $[amount] away from the goal. Here's the link if you'd like to help: [link]. Thanks so much!

One reminder is plenty. Two at most. If someone doesn't give after that, let it go gracefully.

Two days left! [Team name] is just $[amount] away from our goal. Every gift counts: [link]

Thank-you text (the most important template)

Send this the same day someone gives. It's the best way to earn a gift again next season.

Thank you so much, [Name]! Your gift means a lot to me and my team. I'll let you know how [the tournament / the season] goes! ⚽💚

Thank-you after the campaign

Thank you, [Name]! Because of you, our team raised $[total] and we're going to [event]. I couldn't have done it without your help!

Tips for parents helping younger players

  • Sit with your player and send the first five texts together.
  • Let your player record a 10-second video: "Hi Grandma, I'm raising money for my team!"
  • Print a flyer with your player's QR code and put it on the fridge at relatives' houses.

If your club doesn't have an easy way to give every player their own page and QR code yet, send your club director this page.

Frequently asked questions

What should a sports fundraising letter include?

Say who the player is, what the team is raising money for, the goal, the deadline and a link to give. Keep it short and personal, and thank the reader at the end.

How many people should a player ask?

A good starting point is 10 to 20 people: grandparents, aunts and uncles, family friends, neighbors and former coaches. Players who share early with a longer list usually raise the most.

Is it okay to send reminders?

Yes. One or two friendly reminders a few days apart is normal and often appreciated. Stop once the person gives or tells you they can't.
